So I’m a geek and a nerd. I love comics, video games, DnD etc so this is my case for Naruto.
Now I know what you’re going to say. I know what you might feel. Please bear with me whilst I explain why Naruto is an amazing TV show, why you should watch it and why you should watch it with your kids (10+ I think but it’s your discretion) since the themes in the show are so broad. It’s also a better quality of show than anything that’s getting produced in the West at the moment (yes I’m looking at you Proud Family (1))
So like I've asked above. Please bear with me whilst I make the case for watching this show in your precious free time. If it’s not for you then thank you, for your time and have a great day.
A person grows up when he’s able to overcome hardships. Protection is important, but there are some things that a person must learn on his own. - Jiraiya
So first of all I’m going to quickly talk about, in my opinion, the main reason why the show rules and that’s due to the main character himself. Naruto Uzamaki. Naruto’s past is tragic and left him an orphan as well as being ostracised by the villagers of The Village Hidden in the Leaves. He had no friends growing up, he was alone and this meant he acted like the class clown, trying to make friends and just get ANY kind of attention from a grown up. There’s numerous flashbacks where you see him alone whilst every other kid gets hugs and love from their mothers and fathers. It’s due to how the villagers treat him that instils in him a, determination, that you don’t often see in a character. He never gives up, trains as hard as he can. When he does makes friends his love for them knows no bounds and he will do ANYTHING to help them. He also has this aura about him that gets characters to also try their hardest. Naruto would even make friends with his enemies if they chose to live in peace.
So that’s Naruto. Next we can’t talk about Naruto without mentioning the writing. These aren’t the wannabes from Hollywood who just race swap characters or make them gay. This is class writing from a group of people that know their craft as well as knowing their fans. Naruto has great writing that covers love, peace, friendship, morals as well as having a shed load of quotes which I shall post below.
“Hard work is worthless for those that don’t believe in themselves.” – Naruto Uzumaki
“Somebody told me once that I was a failure. I’ll prove them wrong.” - Naruto Uzumaki
“It’s human nature not to realise the true value of something, unless they lose it.” - Orochimaru
So lets move on to the supporting cast. All are well written with their own wants and needs that are explored. All have their time to shine during the show. My 2 favourites are Kakashi and Might Guy.
Narutos rival Sasuke Uchiha is also brilliantly written. With his tragic past involving his older brother, the writers tease out his story as the series progresses.
Speaking of Sasuke’s brother. Lets talk about the villians. The show features a bunch of memorable villains who have unique motivations, interesting powers, and great origin stories. chiha Madara, Uchiha Obito, Pain, Zabuza, and Uchiha Itachi are among the show's most well-written villains. It wasn't just their skill as ninjas that made them great characters, but their ideology is what makes them influential characters. The show proves that even the most well meaning characters can fall into wicked ways pursuing what they believe to be right.
It would be difficult to dull the conflicts on a planet full of ninjas who have mastered the skills of diverse ninjutsu. Thankfully, this isn't a problem, since Naruto boasts some of the most exciting and innovative fights in the genre thanks to the amazing concepts employed in the series.
Add in some awesome choreography that pulls these themes together and makes them work in tandem with some wicked martial arts-inspired combat. This was first shown in the Chunin Exams arc. However, as the anime progressed, the fights became even better in Pain's Assault Arc and reached a peak during the Fourth Shinobi World War.
So there we go. That’s my case for watching Naruto with your kids instead of some shit Western programme. It’s full of good stories, awesome characters and good lessons.
I hope I find you all happy and healthy.
