That sword rocks! Food, family and fun are ours. You're very lucky to have your grandma still. All of my grandparents have gone home and it's not the same. Still decorations and Christmas vacation with Chevy Chase and Scrooged( my husband and I watched it last week after we put the lad to sleep and still think we wouldn't let our son watch it even though I was about ten or so when I first watched it) however Disney's Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey is better for our son, but just family, church, food and being blessed to be together. Lots of cookies and cakes too.

My favorite Scrooge movie is the Albert Finney one from like the 70’s.

Oh I don’t have any grandparents anymore. I lost my last one in like 2013 I think.

I’ve already eaten a tub of chocolates to myself 😂😂.

That sword, though... pure fire! Love it :-)

Been building new traditions over the last few years. I get together with friends, which includes several children and a whole zoo's-worth of domesticated animals (dogs and cats LOL). Food (ham and fixins - yep, that's a word here), fellowship, and watching the kids open their gifts. 'Tis a good time, indeed.

Thanks for sharing this, brother - hope you enjoy your Christmas!

Oh I caught my dad sharpening it once. I was like “woah dad. Why are you sharpening it?” Two words.

“Zombie apocalypse.” 😂😂.

Glad you hear you have so many great traditions too. We call them trimmings.

Yeah you probably could. He’s VERY left wing but usually keeps his opinions to himself 😂.

That sword!!

In my family we don't really have Christmas traditions, it was only special when we were small kids: both my father and later my brother used to be firemen, so they would often be on duty during Christmas - sometimes they were pulled from the dinner table, when some idiot had set their tree on fire.

When the Grandmas still lived, we would visit them. That was great, meeting relatives, playing with the cousins. Oh, and all the nice food!

Later, Christmas tree and presents for the sake of my son. Now when he is already a grown-up, he spends Christmas with the remaining of his father's family, and there he always has much more food than what I could provide, myself never been a great cook. And I meet my son another day.

This might sound cruel, but I also don't visit my Mom for Christmas... Her birthday is a few days before, so if I am able to travel, I schedule it for that date.

Most times I am working through Christmas: singing. (And that would be long to talk about, what experiences I have when I sing in the streets on Christmas Eve, for example)

Also, the Christian context has never really meant anything for me, except when a small child I believed that the Baby Jesus would bring the presents 😌 That's how it is here in Hungary.

However, despite of my loose Calvinist background, since a few years I love to go to a nearby Midnight mass of the Catholics, because listening to all those people singing together is very uplifting spiritually.

And this year's Christmas was absolutely different from anything else I have ever done, I still need to put my thoughts in order about it.

I rather figure out my own winter solstice story and celebrate in a spontaneous way.

Sorry for the late reply Andrea! And thank you for the comment.

I’ve been duty during Christmas and it sucks so I feel for you as a kid.

I used to love going to my nanas at Christmas. She’d pull this large roll of £20’s from her bra and count out £40 for me and my siblings 😂.

Oooo I’ve never been to Hungary though I’ve wanted to go. I hear the woman are beautiful lol.

I’d also love to hear why this years Christmas was different. Fingers crossed you release the story.

Love the visual in your post, so true in today's times. As for Christmas rituals, it changes every year or so as I move quite often, but if it just me and my husband, then good food, desserts, wine, eggnog and a good movie is a must.

I watch The Last Holiday with Queen Latifah at least once each year. The rest is up to my children since they have my grands and it’s all about the child either in the manger or running through my house.

I also try to watch the Harry Potters each Christmas season.

I bet Christmas at your home is amazing with so many excited kids.

Among my Christmas traditions is being kind to people different from me - including trans folks and people of color. And not censoring books like a whiny puke.

Well I’m kind to people as long as they’re kind to me. I love people of colour. My own sisters are half Indian so I love that.

As for trans people? Well I’ve got no issue with them either as long as they stay out of Women’s single sex spaces (like shelters for women that have been beaten up or raped by men) and women’s sports. Why don’t they enter the open category that’s being set up. That’s not too much to ask is it?

As for censoring books? I don’t want books censored. Not at all. But let’s not have pornogrohic books in schools that a 7 year old could pick up. If you’re happy with that then I suspect you might need your computer hard drive checking.
