Love it, thanks for the history!

I was side drummer in the base pipe band and played at Nova Scotia Tattoo ‘84 as part of Air Command. THE most exhilarating experience!! I can only imaginr being at the original in Edinburgh, my dream.

And I defy anyone to keep a dry eye during Lone Piper’s Lament. Must now look up the history of that particular.

I watched the Queen mother’s funeral in 2002 I think, and the pipers played a lament when they pulled her coffin on a gun carriage. I cannot say I wasn’t moved to tears. There is something about the bagpipes that is deeply moving.

Totally agree! Our culture involves pageantry, it’s what brings us together. I cannot imagine this country without it. I don’t want to imagine a country with a presidential system. Apart from the cost, it’s wide open to corruption. Very interesting article thanks.

Amazing videos! I attended the Edinburgh Tattoo years ago and this inspired me to consider attending it again.

Yes! I am of the Thomson clan. The last time I was in Edinburgh, I bought a kilt made with the formal Thomson plaid. The Thomson's are part of the Campbell clan. My family was from the Glasgow area before they immigrated to the United States and Canada.

You’ll have to post a pic of your kilt!!

That will take some hunting to find it. :) It is wool and I live in East Texas where it is hotter than hot! However, when the time comes, the pic will be posted! In fact, if I go in my archives I might already have one… I’ll check for one. I know I wore it the last time I was in Scotland.

Fascinating stuff Vulkan. Thank you. And I agree. Very happy we spend money on this type of thing. There should be more celebration of our culture and history.

There should be. I doubt it will happen with Labour in charge though.

Yes. Though I think there Tories were just as bad TBH

They're Labour-Lite. It's why I voted Reform and helped get Penny Mourdant out. (I personally thought she might be safe as the media seem to love her plus all her bits in the recent ceremonies holding the sword etc.)

Shame about Penny. A couple of her early speeches were great. But she just seemed to lose her way. Or maybe that was just her all along. Not sure the Tories can find a way back. At least not in this parliament.
