Great article!! Becoming a mother would be serendipitous to me. You have had some amazing moments. You aren't old you still could have that moment and grab some ice cream. Love that movie too. Love Actually is still one of my favorite Christmas movies and of course Dr Who on Christmas Eve.😁
Thank you for your praise. Very appreciated. My favorite Christmas movie would be The Santa Clause I think. Gotta love a bit of Tim Allen. I hope I do have that moment. I've just got to recognize it it for what it is!!
Fair to say your a fan of Chomsky? “Is the tall man happy?” Highly recommend and would love to discuss. Im writing a piece on Aphantasia right now. Also a great word. Should be up in a day or two. Nice piece Vulkan!
I’m a fan though I disagreed a LOT with his stances regarding Covid and the vaccine. I can understand his misgivings about Covid due to his age though.
I follow a yoga paradigm. Giving money to the ashram is a vehicle for grace. Once a year they ask you to renew. I asked my husband if we couldn't double the amount. He said, sure. The next day he got a phone call from a company he worked for 18 years prior to tell him that there had been a $7,000. miscalculation in their accounting and the money was deposited in his account. The next day another call adding $2000. in interest the money had earned. The third and final call came the next day because there was $700. interest on the interest.
It reinforces the idea that you get what you give.
We don't have kids. He invested the money. He worked on Wall Street at the time. The company he worked for 18 years prior was a manufacturing plant he made robotic.
I earned a salary in the top 1% of the US during my career as an advertising copywriter. I'm a bit at odds with the concept of substack. It seems like writers paying writers through subscriptions. I'm here, and loving it, for the conversation which is so much more civilized and intelligent than any social media. But I'll never put anything behind a pay wall. I'm new to this, so I don't begrudge the writers for needing to make a living. I just can't imagine paying for opinion when there isn't enough time in the day to read everything I'm interested in as it is.
Well I'm military so I'm deffo not in the top 1% LOL. But good on you. You must have worked your butt off to get that. I don't even know why I'm writing. I was bored whilst on watch and thought fuck it. I'm also new to this and also would never put anything behind a paywall but then I'll never ask anyone to become a paying subscriber either as I just don't think what I write is good enough or interesting enough to warrant that (I'm not fishing for compliments either lol.) The only social media I've ever had was FB which I gave up in 2018 so at the moment I have this.
I managed to bust two child trafficking rings here in South America. In the process I fell in love with Special Forces military teams that rescue trafficked women and children. I admire military men more than any other. You have been under paid and under appreciated. I support political candidates that back veterans and want peace. One concept I keep putting out there is to abolish NATO and turn the UN building at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza into a Veterans facility.
your comment on the Voyager made me think of this completely random Tumblr post that i saved on my phone, god... over a decade ago? it was, and is, very moving to me, which is mildly humiliating bc it’s from Tumblr:
“gosh but like we spent hundreds of years looking up at the stars and wondering “is there anybody out there” and hoping and guessing and imagining
because we as a species were so lonely and we wanted friends so bad, we wanted to meet other species and we wanted to talk to them and we wanted to learn from them and to stop being the only people in the universe
and we started realizing that things were maybe not going so good for us—we got scared that we were going to blow each other up, we got scared that we were going to break our planet permanently, we got scared that in 100 years we were all going to be dead and gone and even if there were other people out there, we’d never get to meet them
and then
we built robots?
and we gave them names and we gave them brains made out of silicon and we pretended they were people and we told them hey you wanna go exploring, and of course they did, because we had made them in our own image
and maybe in a hundred years we won’t be around any more, maybe yeah the planet will be a mess and we’ll all be dead, and if other people come from the stars we won’t be around to meet them and say hi! how are you! we’re people, too! you’re not alone any more! maybe we’ll be gone
but we built robots, who have beat-up hulls and metal brains, and who have names; and if the other people come and say, who were these people? what were they like?
the robots can say, ‘when they made us, they called us discovery; they called us curiosity; they called us explorer; they called us spirit. they must've thought that was important.
Nothing about what you saved was humiliating, even if it was from Tumblr. I can see why it would move you. When you look at today you can probably safely say that we are closer than ever to blowing each other up. I seriously hope not though. I have to much to see. Too much to eat. Too many people to meet. I have to find a girl to tell my song too lol.
I seriously hope that we find evidence of intelligent life, out there in the stars, in my lifetime. It would be so amazing to have that confirmation but as time ticks by I can see the odds getting higher and higher.
It's why I like Elon Musk. He at least is trying to make us an interplanetary species so that when the fucktards in power do blow us up we have another planet that has us around to carry on that question. Are we alone?
And “influencer” and “viral” are probably two of my very least favorite words. Fave words? Just cannot choose today--the buffet is simply too beautiful to choose in this moment...
“Anyways. Words. One of the greatest inventions the human species has ever devised. They allow us, in a way, to achieve immortality. They help us convey our ideas, how we feel, what our dreams are, where we are.” ❤️🔥

Yeah Chomsky was great and then COVID got em. Neil Young and Joni same shit. Sad.

I’ll have to watch that show when I have time!!
Oooo I’ll make sure to read it when it comes out!

That’s bloody amazing!! May I ask what you did with the money? I’m guessing spent on kids futures if you have them.
It reminds me of a Norwegian family. They had 3 children (that I know off) and they won the Norwegian lottery twice whilst she was pregnant!!
We don't have kids. He invested the money. He worked on Wall Street at the time. The company he worked for 18 years prior was a manufacturing plant he made robotic.
Nice. Here’s hoping you made a nice little retirement package for the future!!

don’t look up the “doomsday clock.” it’s not gonna make u feel better
Oh I know all about the doomsday clock. It’s not good.
And “influencer” and “viral” are probably two of my very least favorite words. Fave words? Just cannot choose today--the buffet is simply too beautiful to choose in this moment...
You just mentioned another word in my top 10. Buffet LOL. Who doesn't love a good buffet.
I’d like to meet a buffet I don’t like.
Then I’d go fix it.
