Aw, thanks mate. I was thinking "this is profound for a Monday!" but it really got me thinking. I'd like to think I make the most of what time I have. I can't wait for things because time doesn't wait for me. Sorry to hear about the incident with the van. Really scary. Glad you're on the mend!
Ouch. What's it like walking/exercising? Yeah I think the assassination attempt was really interesting. He survived and it's good that he did tbh. It will have changed a lot more than his death would have. He probably feels he needs to make the most of the life he still has. Thanks so much. I've always been a "do it and see what happens" person which sometimes doesn't result in success but oh well. Life is short.
lovely! first, that kamala quote after the other, substantive quotes was even more hilarious. also seeing it in writing—chef's kiss. second, once upon a Time, wink wink, I wanted to be an actress. I got shit parts in shit projects and wound up writing my own one-woman show based on—Mary Shelley. And through that experience found my voice as a writer, quit acting and went on to publish two novels. As fleeting as Time is for us mere mortals, words seem Timeless. of course one day it'll all be vapor. that's what freaks me out. anyway, I earmarked that Mozart mashup to listen to in the car. beautiful! Thanks for this post.
Thanks very much for the kind words Mrs M!!! Could you link or write an article with links to your own books as I would buy them for my Kindle please lol.
Time is fleeting which is why I kind of went on about put aside differences etc. Who knows where we'll be tomorrow.
Great stuff Vulkan. I often feel I have wasted so much time. But then I look at my kids and think, maybe not. But it creeps up on you. I’m an active sort, but the thought that in ten years, no time, I will be approaching 70 is beyond shocking to me. Honestly just writing that made me physically shudder. But then I know men who work out at my gym, a proper work out too, who are well into their 80s. My friend Fred is one, he was in Porridge as a supporting artist! He’s 87.
Not a grandfather Vulkan. I’m far too young!! 🤣 What a show. A brilliant cast. Barker was so good. And so was everyone else. Cracking scripts. A slice of cultural life. And a story about the ironies of being a man. Perfect.
Thanks for reading. I think when people are writing about writing or ow people spend their time we need to push the great authors here on SubStack and not the MSM ones.
Agreed, it can be a tempting notion to push only MSM ones, and one that I do understand at times (I myself push Howard & Tolkien quite often). But as you said we gotta keep pushing great authors of Substack that we might grow an 'alternative' array of Fiction authors.
What's interesting to remember is that at one time the likes of Lovecraft, Howard, Tolkien and Lewis were considered 'alternative' rather than mainstream.
Agreed 100%. At some point someone will have to set up an alternative book publisher that WILL sell the books we write on here, without fear of Amazon taking it down.
Agreed, I’m currently trying through En Route Publishing, and also have once I have enough cash, Defiance Press I’ll be going through.
As it is, these are the main two options I could find. One’s small the other is expensive (but seems worth it).
I’m going to look into French publishers soon, once this month’s stories are all finished and uploaded and scheduled (if I can get ahead and all). And then going to work on the Spanish, Russian and French stories I’ve in mind on top of as said looking into French publishers.
Yeah, problem is that Krynn is already owned apparently by Wizards of the Coast & Margaret Weis (not judging the latter). Krynn Publishings would be awesome like you said.
It's healthy to compare yourself to people you admire personally. Then ask advice, It works. Otherwise, not so much
Caesar compared himself to Alexander and that didn't work out very well.
Instead compare yourself to yourself. Especially day by day.
Sorry to heat about your injury. Bloody typical- joined the military, and then got hit in civilian life by a van. I hope you've got good physio and healthcare.
If not, just mention it back and I'm sure we can rustle up a solution right here on Substack.
PS It's not charity if you've served your country.
Rheumatoid? That's what my mum's got. She likes the methotrexate, but I did get her enrolled on one of the CD40 trials here in the UK. There's also a malarial drug, but I would advise avoiding it.
You should start taking Cod Liver Oil. It won't help with the rheumatoid, but it will help when the ostio rears its ugly head.
Also it's worth consulting with your doctor for an allergen test. There are lots of environmental allergens which can make your condition worse, especially house dust/mites. Rheumatoid is an immunological condition- you can reduce your symptoms by managing your environment.
Very cool. This was interesting. I also wrote about the assassination attempt and time. From a different angle, of course. Laughed at the Phisto comment as well as Harris's quote. Lots to ponder here, but ultimately, this piece takes a shape that is formed by gratitude. Wonderful!
we over focused on a couple of massive building projects that yet are indeed building, you’re holding it in your hand now. As the focus was on making this marvelous building Smaller indeed way too small to be seen by the eye- i refer to microcircuitry and chips - ye despair. NO you’re looking the wrong way. All the rich invested in building smaller and faster machines so the great masses of the earth could use it as a tool, indeed every school, tool, craft, training, education and encyclopedia, law, statutes is in your hand but as it built smaller and smaller to be portable you miss the building. At visible scale your phone and the computer in it would easily be a skyscraper.
YOU’RE LOOKING THE WRONG WAY.
The other area focused on was materialism and hence growth and here the fatal mistake of democratizing debt and credit…
I've never thought about it in that way before tbh. My small phone has the WHOLE history of man on it. I just wish the censor kings wouldn't change it today
I think about time ALL the time! And it really does go faster the older you get. It's a very interesting phenomena. Here is something I wrote about it. I have much more to say but...I don't have the time. https://cucharo.substack.com/p/standard-time-is-here
I've just looked her up and you have to feel for her and the other upper class women of the time. Told to give up her dreams so that she could make a good marriage.
At least she greatly influenced her little brother though.
It was a great article!
Thanks very much Master Knight.

I'm glad you liked it. I've been thinking about it since about 5 hours after Trumps Assassination attempt.
It deffo sounds like you do make the most of your time and I can't wait to read your book.
Yeah I suffered a Tibial Plateau which was made worse by sending me onto the Aircraft Carrier last year.

If you’ve raised good kids then you’ve not wasted your time in the slightest.
Are you a grandfather yet?
I fucking loved Porridge. What a show.
Is this an 'across the pond' reference the Yanks wouldn't get?
I don’t know lol. Depends on if they’ve ever heard of the brilliant Ronnie Barker and porridge.
Search for four candles and you’ll see the genius of them.
Not a grandfather Vulkan. I’m far too young!! 🤣 What a show. A brilliant cast. Barker was so good. And so was everyone else. Cracking scripts. A slice of cultural life. And a story about the ironies of being a man. Perfect.
Great article about time, and I love the shout-out to the likes of Hanna Delaney and Kathrine Elaine, both very much merit it.
Thanks for reading. I think when people are writing about writing or ow people spend their time we need to push the great authors here on SubStack and not the MSM ones.

That's fantastic!!
Imagine if you had the cash to do it yourself. Krynn Publishings!
It's got a good ring to it.
Yeah, problem is that Krynn is already owned apparently by Wizards of the Coast & Margaret Weis (not judging the latter). Krynn Publishings would be awesome like you said.
We might instead have to go with Vulkan Press ;)

Yeah some old boy hit me and then the navy made it worse.
I’ve got early onset arthritis which is super awesome 😂.
Thank you for the kind words though.

It’s still early yet and I’m still talking to navy surgeons etc.
Oh god that reminds me of the time I took Lariam. I lasted 2 weeks then refused to take any more.
My dad took lariam. He was USAF turned oil biz. Sergeant turned Captain.
He did not do well with Lariam. It turns people mean. He was OK, but when he came out off, it was like a cloud of darkness had lifted.
Yeah I had extreme nightmares and hallucinations.
What a great way to remind us of what we have and that we have a choice as to how to spend it. Thank you.
Thank YOU for spending your precious time reading my piece.

Lovely piece about the value of time. I'm impressed that someone wrote a masterpiece as good as Franchestein at a young age.
I’m glad you enjoyed it and It made me want to read Frankenstein again!!
Building- NO you’re looking the wrong way.

My Nana had a saying. The days are long but the years are short. I should have put that in there lol.
ugh yes. i devoted a whole chapter to your Nana's saying in my second novel. ooh look at me pimping my shizz. so cringe! forgive me. lol
You're amazing so you're easily forgiven!
🥰🥰🥰
Time as a resource is a very English/Germanic notion! I don't disagree though. :)
Mozart's older sister was also a bit of a prodigy, but he completely stole the spotlight when she was about fifteen. Sucks don't it?
I've just looked her up and you have to feel for her and the other upper class women of the time. Told to give up her dreams so that she could make a good marriage.
At least she greatly influenced her little brother though.
I think most men were told to do the same. If you don't marry well, you'll have no one to look after you in old age.
But it would be really annoying to be so musically talented and then overshadowed by a little kid haha
It's why I never let the youngsters in my family beat me at Mario Kart!!! OOOOSH gotta keep the win streak up.
I think the first born were told to as future heads of the family. 8th born sons were left to find the best marriage they could lol.
